How to Prepare for Science Olympiad Foundation Exams?

Olympiad exams are meant to boost the problem-solving and analytical abilities of students. Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) conducts six main Olympiad exams. They are the National Cyber Olympiad (NCO), International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), International English Olympiad (IEO), International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO), National Science Olympiad (NSO) and International Commerce Olympiad (ICO).

Science Olympiad exams are conducted for students studying in Classes 1 to 12. One of the famous Olympiads by SOF is IMO, which stands for International Mathematics Olympiad. In this article, we will discuss the preparation tips for attempting SOF.

Preparation Tips for SOF Exams

●      Proper Timetable

Ensure that before starting preparation, students have a proper timetable for each subject. The timetable is one which they can always depend on while preparing for any exams. Assign more time for weak subjects and prepare accordingly.

●      Understand the Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The syllabus and exam pattern are the two essential parameters to be known before starting preparation. Hence, it gives students a clear understanding of the marks and what topics are to be covered.

●      Prepare Short Notes

Note preparation is an effective way of preparation, as it improves the consumption of revision time. For science subjects, note preparation is beneficial as it comprises law, equations, formulas, etc.

●      Solve Sample Question Papers

Solving sample papers is one of the best ways a student can do while preparing for the Olympiad exams. By practising mock tests, students will get to know the important topics they might have skipped. Students must solve as many sample papers as they can.

●      Time Management

Students will be under stress during exam time. It can be solved only by managing time. Try to practise more question papers within the time limit so students will get an idea to write the exam similarly.

●      Hydrate and Meditate

Time intervals are much needed for refreshing the mind and body. A 10 to 15 minutes break is mandatory after 1 or 2 hours of study. Instead of investing time in social media, meditate and get hydrated. Sleeping and waking up at the right time are crucial for everyone. Especially in a student’s life, it should be achieved.

●      Practise Previous Years’ Question Papers

Working on previous years’ question papers gives students an idea of how well they know about the syllabus and pattern. It is one of the effective ways of preparing for the olympiad exam. For example, if students are preparing for IMO, questions will mostly solve problems. They can score excellent marks on this exam if they practise well with the previous years’ question papers and are thorough with the IMO Syllabus.

Summary

Science Olympiad Foundation is one of the largest Olympiads in the subjects of Science, Computer, Maths, Commerce, English, General Knowledge, and Social Studies. It is conducted in two levels; if students qualify for level one, then they are allowed to write the level 2 exam. Above mentioned are some tips for preparing for the SOF exam. Follow them and try hard by putting your extreme effort.
