What Are Crowns and Veneers?

Dental crowns and veneers are curative procedures that improve the look of misshapen teeth. Although they both provide similar functions, there are a few significant differences between crowns and veneers.

Crowns

A dental crown affixes over the visible part of a damaged tooth. It looks and operates just like the tooth it replaces. If you have a cracked, misshapen, or worn tooth, a crown restores its shape and size while protecting it from further damage.

Veneers

Veneers are thin porcelain components that are permanently attached to the surface of your teeth to modify their shape, size, and color. These custom-made replacements appear natural and are stain-resistant.

What Can Crowns and Veneers Fix?

Crowns and veneers conceal any defects in your teeth while safeguarding them from being further damaged. Both restorations are suitable therapies for dental issues, such as:

  •         Teeth that are worn down by grinding
  •         Decayed teeth
  •         Chipped teeth
  •         Discolored teeth
  •         Eroded teeth
  •         Cracked and broken teeth
  •         Gapped teeth

Dental crowns are also recommended to repair teeth with big fillings or those that have undergone root canal therapy.

Placement of Crowns and Veneers

Conventional crowns and veneers require two appointments. On the other hand, Dr. Artaza and his crew provide CEREC® same-day procedures to place your crowns or veneers in a single visit.

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) treatment completes your new restoration from the comfort of Dr. Artaza’s office, using special software and a piece of on-site milling equipment.

The planning and placement of dental restorations, such as crowns and bridges, is the same for traditional crowns, bridges, and CEREC therapies.

Dr. Artaza starts by preparing your teeth for their new implants. In the case of crowns, he reshapes your problematic tooth to provide more room for the crown. When preparing your teeth for veneers, he removes a small amount of your tooth enamel, enabling the veneer to blend in with the rest of your smile.

After preparing your teeth, Dr. Artaza and his specialists will take impressions from which your unique crowns or veneers will be created. He employs a milling machine in his office to create CEREC restorations. Traditional crowns and bridges are made in an offsite lab and sent to the dentist in 2-3 weeks.

Dr. Artaza will place the crowns or veneers on your teeth once they are ready. He makes any necessary changes to ensure a perfect fit and then cements them in place.
